Hepburn Springs

Boxster / Cayman Register Run to Hepburn Springs

Sunday August 17th 2014

Welcome to our third register run for the year. This one is taking place in the depths of winter so have organised something to make the day a little less daunting and a tad shorter (especially for those coming from the eastern side of the city).

We'll actually start the day at morning tea. We've done this once before and it proved popular so figured we'd do it again. We've chosen the same venue as February last year to start our run, that being Mona's Cafe in the Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour. Here you'll sit down to tea and coffee as well as Mona's very special lemon cheese cake and apple and rhubarb pie. You take as long as it needs to get there and rest up and we'll aim to be underway about 10.45 (give or take 10 minutes... we're out to have a good time so no rush today).

Once we're moving we have planned a trip that is, of course, only on bitumen but will also be very Porsche friendly with lots of nice turns, interesting climbs and descents, some straight stretches and scenic bushland views for most of the trip. There are a few stretches that have been done before (though still fun to drive) but plenty of new sections too. To quote Will, in car harmony is assured!

We are aiming to arrive at lunch around an hour and a half later (about120 km) at Rubens @ Hepburn where we will have our own private room and a two course meal of alternate soup / bruschetta for entree followed by alternate mains of steak (eye fillet with garlic butter or pepper sauce) / Dijon chicken (grilled breast topped with white wine and Dijon mustard sauce with melted Camembert cheese and crispy bacon). Sweets (if you can fit them in) and drinks to own account.

We have also organised some bottles of local wines (Mt Franklin Estate, Sandy Farm Vintners) as prizes for our little in car quiz to 15 questions to win a bottle... well the best 6 responses anyway.

After lunch, there is shopping in Daylesford main street (3 kms away) or perhaps the Mill Market. Either way, the Western Highway is 33 kms from the restaurant, no turns required and you're on your way home.

Date: Sunday 17th August 2014

Meeting Point / Morning Tea: Meet at 10 a.m. at Mona's Cafe, 432 Bacchus Marsh Rd (part of the Big Apple Fruit Shop). Take the first exit to Bacchus Marsh from the Western Freeway and drive down the Avenue of Honour until you see the venue on your left @ 2.3 kms from the exit.

Cost: $60 Includes morning tea and two course lunch. Drinks to own account on the day.
