Annual Family BBQ and Concours

This year’s BBQ was held on Sunday August 5th in Dunboyne Castle Hotel, Co. Meath on a lovely sunny August day. In the past the weather hasn’t always been so kind!

We had lots of activities to cover all ages including; a childrens fairy, ice cream van, brass band, pagoda with seating, magician over dinner and music in our reserved lounge after dinner. The club continues to support charities around the country and last year the raised more than €22,000, some in conjunction with others. This year’s BBQ charity was in aid of Barretstown and we’re delighted that the raffle raised more than €1,200 with your generous support. It’s for a very deserving cause which we also get involved with at another part of the year.

Special thanks to our two guest speakers who both gave very interesting talk which were held indoors. First up was Brian Cullen former Formula 2 driver who provided a fascinating insight into a racers life in the fast lane. Brian was followed by John Rice of Jem Oils who gave some technical insights to Miller Oils range of performance products.

The almost 150 people on the day had a wide choice of Porsche to drool over, from brand new to some almost 50 years old and all looked really well displayed on the hotels front lawn. The Concours judges were kept busy examining the Concours de ‘Elegance and Street Concours categories and they announced the following results after dinner that evening.

Honorary Membership: Was awarded to Dave Whelan, former Club President, and is richly deserved. There’s a very small number of Honorary Members in the Club and it’s only given for long and dedicated work on behalf of Porsche Club Ireland. We are fortunate to have Dave as a current committee member to avail of his knowledge, international contacts and good humour. Thank you Dave!

Congratulations to all of the winners and to everyone who took part and all of the work to bring them to such high standards.  We’d also like to acknowledge the ongoing support from sponsors including; Dubarry, Radisson St Helens, Mondello Park, Autoglym, Dunboyne Castel, Barrett Private Insurances. Unfortunately, Porsche Centre Dublin could not attend

This type of large event doesn’t run itself and there were countless people involved over a number of the summer and last number of weeks.  Particular thanks go to PCI committee members and families, Tony, Karen, Robert, Andy, Edward, James, Neil, Pascal and others for all the hours input on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in having everything ‘ship shape’.

Well done and a BIG 'thank you' to everyone who participated.
