During the weekend of 8 and 9 May 2015 3 teams of Porsche Cub of SA – KZN members took part in the 2 hour race that formed part of the African Endurance Series.

The teams were:
Fred de Kock and Justin Matthie in a Nissan 350Z
Neerajh Ghazi and Pierre Martins in a GT3
Tania and Graham du Toit in a GT3 Cup.

The event was run in conjunction with the Midas Historic Series and the 2 hours event was the very last race to take place on Kyalami in it’s existing guise.

Friday comprised of four 20 minutes practise sessions. These were a bit of a learning curve for Tania , Neerajh and Graham as it has been some time since they drove at Kyalami.

Saturday saw us attend the drivers briefing at 10h00 , take part in the qualifying session and then loads of planning to get the vehicles and refueling strategy sorted for the 16h00 start.

Justin , Neerajh  and Tania drove the first stint for their respective teams with the plan being a refuel and driver switch around the 1 hour mark.

Tania however had other plans and somehow managed to “fail to note” the instruction to pit!

The second stint was a rather interesting affair as at about 17h30 it started to get dark and the last 15 to 20 minutes were driven in the dark.

I must confess that whilst it was daunting it was a wonderful experience and something I would like to do again!

Fred and Justin won their class (19th overall completing 49 laps in 2 hours 0 minutes and 55 seconds)  , Pierre and Neerajh were second in their class (11th overall completing 55 laps in 2 hours 1 minute and 54 seconds) and Tania and Graham were third in their class (15th overall completing 53 laps in 2 hour 1 minute and 42 seconds)

There was the usual commraderie amongst the Porsche Club boys and in general there is a great vibe amongst the endurance racers with everyone willing to assist.

Graham and Tania would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to Tony Martin and the Backdraft Racing team who assisted them in the pits

An now we are considering the 3 hour event at Killarney in June!?
