The annual PCSA Central Concours 2015 was held at Emperors Palace on Sunday 12 April. With the abundance of rain that Gauteng had enjoyed over the past three weeks, entrants in the competition were delighted that this year’s event was indoors. And what a lovely venue it was.
On arrival in the hall participants were congratulated on enduring the traffic jam outside Emperors Palace - due to a cycle race starting from the same venue. We were given access to Centre Court via the Delivery Entrance, and all the cars were ushered directly into the hall by our committee members, preventing any further delays.
The 50 Cars entered in the days events were lined up in their respective Classes, D’Etat, D’Ellegance, D’Excellence and Race and Rally in a hall that did the entrants justice. Seeing so many gleaming Porsches lined up ranging from a Production Line Perfect 1964 356, to a Show Room Floor delivered 2015 911GTS was truly breath-taking, and included most models in-between. Conspicuous by their absence were any 924 or 944 entrants (these member owners will be encouraged to participate in next year’s event). The complement of entrants was strengthened by a display of cars by PORSCHE SOUTH AFRICA, including the 2015 COTY winner, the Macan Diesel.
The Car “preening” was stopped promptly at 09:30 when the judging started. This was completed by 12:20 without any major incidents - except for a Macan Diesel whose owner had omitted to leave the car open with the key inside. This mishap was forgiven as the owner was one of the organisers and was busy ensuring entries were received and entered in the score document, as well as receiving New member Applications – 15 in total on the day. The arduous job of collating all the scores in the various Categories and classes was completed by 13:15 and then prize giving began. The winner of the D’Etat Class 356, Lukas van Rooyen, was also the Overall Winner of the 2015 Concours.
An event like this would not be possible without Sponsors and they are thanked by the 2015 Committee on behalf of all Porsche Club South Africa Central members for their generosity. These are SELA BROKERS (the official Porsche Club Insurer), PORSCHE SOUTH AFRICA, AUTO FINESSE, M & R MOTORS, AUTO GLAZE, AQUA JET PROFILES, CAFÉ 9, STUDIO 88 & AIR COOLED WONDERS and lastly but most importantly EMPERORS PALACE for the venue.
