PORSCHE CLUB NEWS JULY 2020

Dear Porsche Club Members,

2020 reminds me of this quote of Parnelli Jones: "if you think you're in control, you are not going fast enough". It has been a speedy rollercoaster of a year for many. We miss our fantastic family of Porsche enthusiasts and the banter that unites the passion for the Porsche brand.

Over the past weeks and months, we have been closely monitoring the Covid-19 pandemic progression in South Africa, eager to re-start club activities. But at the same time, we need to ensure that we apply mandatory and precautionary measures to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our members. In consultation with key role players, considering our members' safety and welfare as a priority, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone and cancel some of our events.

YEAR-END FUNCTION

The current Covid-19 stats in Gauteng has necessitated the need to exercise great caution in eliminating close contact. Due to the nature and scale of some of our Porsche events and the difficulty of implementing social distancing, it is with a heavy heart that we advise the cancellation of the Year-End Function scheduled for 31 October. The Porsche Club had spectacular plans to celebrate the Porsche Club milestone birthday with the 'greatest hits' and our awards ceremony, but we will carry forward these celebrations to 2021.

CONCOURS 2020

CONCOURS 2020 postponed

We have also decided to postpone the Concourse event originally scheduled for 22 August to 7 November, as a responsible course of action at this time. Due to the event taking place in an open outside area, we can still host this event in the style that you are accustomed to. At the same time, we are making every effort to implement sufficient social distancing protocols to minimise risks to our members.

NEW EVENTS

After consultation with the local SANP, we are planning to host two new Porsche events.

• A Photo Rally will be arranged by rally master Bryan Viljoen. Cars will travel independently but competing to identify features that were photographed and answer the related questions. It is a fun, safe way to get out and enjoy your Porsche in the company of other Club Members. Details will be provided within the next two weeks.

• An old-style drive-in cinema experience where you can enjoy watching a classic Porsche racing movie from the comfort of your car accompanied by old-style roadhouse food like milkshakes and hamburgers.

These events will be arranged in accordance with the Covid-19 Lockdown Regulations with a detailed preparedness plan to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to minimise risks of infection.

BRIAN WHITE VIDEO NOGGIN

We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the video noggin's produced by Porsche Club South Africa Central in conjunction with Porsche Classic Partner Pretoria. The first noggin was with the legendary Brian White. The third out of four episodes will be released over this weekend. An exciting announcement will follow soon introducing our next guest in our video Noggin series. We encourage you to subscribe to the Porsche Club Central YouTube subscriber list. CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE

SIM RACING LEAGUE

A few weeks ago we also tested the interest in a Porsche Sim-Racing league. We are happy to inform you that we are moving forward with this initiative and would hopefully start practice sessions within the next two weeks. Thank you to all who took part in this survey and the friendly and enthusiastic advice given. Please contact us if you want to join this group.

We know our Porsche club members understand why precautionary steps are necessary. Still, we would like to express gratitude to our members and sponsors for their understanding, patience and continued support of the Porsche club.

As previously stated in the communication of the 11th of June, all current memberships will be extended.

It is in these difficult times that communities come together, and the support of our community of Porsche club members incredibly humbles us. Even though 2020 has been a challenging year so far, we hope to encourage you by the reminder that sometimes the most scenic roads in life are detours, we did not mean to take.

Please stay safe, healthy and happy, and we hope to see you soon.

Kind Regards,

Cilliers van Niekerk
