Track Length: 2.4km

8 Corners, 5 Right & 3 Left.

This Annual Fun Track day is an opportunity for members who do not enter the Time Trial Series to drive their cars on a track.  The idea is to provide an opportunity where there is no pressure to keep up with the car ahead, or in front of the car behind. And that is exactly what it turned out to be. The cost of this event was partly paid for by Central Sponsors Centlube Mobil 1, Pirelli, Sela Brokers and Expel Ultimate. Many thanks to these sponsors.

43 Cars were at a very icy and overcast Zwartkops at 07:30 for their owners, co-drivers and passengers to attend the drivers briefing.  Brian Viljoen had everyone registering and signing their indemnities and it did not take long before the drivers briefing started and the Rules Of The Day were firmly explained by Brian. We were all there to have fun, to enjoy our cars and the track, not worry about a timing device and drive our cars home when the sessions ended. There were a few two driver cars where one of the drivers went out as passenger in either a coaching or observation role. Tim Abbot and his son Douglas in his 914, Martin Venkov and brother Steph in the 924, Adrian Wood had his wife in the car as a passenger, Izak Coetzee had his friend along and the list goes on. There were a few first timers in the Novice group which allowed them to familiarise themselves with etiquette on the track, and at the same time the layout of the track. A lot to take in when one is a raw novice. The Novice class also catered for the lower HP cars which ensured everyone was traveling at relatively the same speed, or where the faster cars were in front, they only caught the slower cars by the end of the session.

The 924’s driven by Martin Venkov, Sabelo Nkwanyana, (and Past Presidents) Dave Parrat and Manie Malherbe had a lot of fun. Some last second overtaking before the corners were common place between Martin and Sabelo as they enjoyed their track cars. Martin sent a huge plume of dust into the air at one stage when he decided that the tar was a lot wider than it actually was. When the dust had settled Martin was far down the track and all was well.

The Experienced group used their track time to the limit and enjoyed their cars for what they were built, driving fast in a safe environment. Izak Coetzee had his GT3 RS singing through the corners and down the straights, Brian White amazes everyone with the speed he still achieves in his 964 RSR, John Greve was out in his GT2, Johan de Bruyn showed his beautiful Gunston colours Carrera but unfortunately a gear selection problem had smoke and oil coming out the engine on the straight up to turn 4. The experienced driver was on the extreme right hand side of the track immediately he knew there was a problem and the oil dropped was only on the extreme right of the track which did not affect the remainder of the day for everyone else.
