NEVCC Mosney Show - Sunday 7th June 2009
The Annual North East Vintage Car Club show took place at Mosney, Co Meath on the 7th June last. The weather was very kind to us and there was a good attendance at the show. We had 14 Porsche cars in our area (not all PCI members, but welcomed by us nonetheless) and there was a couple more spread among other clubs.
I was with David Gorman on the Saturday, it was raining heavily in Navan, so we were very concerned how Sunday was going to be and what condition the field would be in. It was not possible to wash and prep the car on the Saturday, so I was up before 7am on Sunday to do the necessary prep. Talking with other PCI members later, I was not the only one up early getting their Porsche looking its best. I met up with David at Duleek on our way to Mosney, he was in his bright Orange Transit and Paddy McManus took his flat nose 911 down. We arrived at the site around 10:00 and there was plenty of cars there already. We were allocated an area in the general area and set about making the best use of our space and getting David’s marquee erected. In our area, the grass could have been cut shorter but we made the best of it. One member, Trevor Smith came with nice steel blocks for his car, so it wasn’t a problem for him! Members then started to arrive and we made the most of our space. We had a couple of 944’s, one Cayenne Turbo, and some very well preserved older 911’s. However, as expected, David’s flat nose drew a lot of attention. My 997 2S was joined later that day with a similar colored Cabroliet of the same year (2005).
Some of the members I met that day included Martin Penrose, with his 944 Turbo, which won our concourse event last year. The car looked just as good now as it did then. Trevor Smith’s 911 SC was also very well presented and Paul Ormond was there with his 944 Turbo Coupe Cabriolet. Hugh Maguire arrived in a very well presented 944 S2 Coupe, he has recently become a Boxster (987) owner so is looking for a new home for this Porsche for a suitable price.
An interesting person I met that day was Oleg Gulakov, who is a master at car seat restoration and from looking at some of his work, he is a very accomplished car interior designer. Checkout some of the photographs of the work he has done on his own 911. He has also completed work for PCI members as well.
I very much enjoyed the day and hopefully the pictures we published of the day give you a good sense of the Porsche cars we encountered. I intend to do the event next year and hopefully we can achieve an even greater turnout. Let us all hope for good weather for the next big car show (Irish Classic & Vintage Motor Show) on July 5th at Terenure College.
