The annual Porsche Club Ireland BBQ & Concours was held on the 5th August this year. Many members now see this as an event not to be missed to catch up with old friends and meet and greet new friends.

Our lovely Irish weather could not be depended on but with the fantastic facilities afforded to us by the Radisson Blue St Helens ensured that a great day was had by all.

We were delighted to have the support of Porsche Centre Dublin with a selection of their cars.

The children’s playroom was a huge hit with the children and the entertainment enjoyed by all.

Our Concours competitions are very competitive with the entrants arriving very early to ensure that their cars are given their final polish and displayed well in advance of the arrival of the Judges. Each year the competitors arrive earlier and this year some competitors were waiting for the arrival of the Autoglym staff to give the cars a quick wash in the rain before proceeding to the main parking area. All through the morning they could be seen cleaning and polishing their cars to a beautiful standard.

This year Autoglym provided a beautiful Dublin Crystal Perpetual Trophy which will be passed annually to the overall winner of Concours d’Elegance.

There were 2 competitions being judged simultaneously by our dedicated judges, the Street Concours and the Concours d’Elegance. Many thanks to our judges - Ted Gaffney, Michael Herbert, Dessi Stewart & Myles O’Reilly. They are very professional in their approach to the judging and this is very much appreciated.

The overall winner of the Concours d’Elegance and the perpetual trophy was Jer Murphy with his fantastic Porsche Cayman

Each year at the BBQ we do a raffle and nominate a charity. This year the charity was Aware. Many members donate prizes and as a result we are able to have a raffle with a lot of prizes. This year we raised over €600 for the charity.

Our BBQ was held in the early evening and once again the Hotel excelled in providing a great BBQ.

With prize giving and raffle held after dinner we then settled down to evening entertainment provided by one of our very own member’s John Daly and the party rolled on till the early hours!

Once again thanks to everyone who helped on the day from sponsors, ticket sellers, desk staff, parking attendants, judges and hotel staff. All of these people played a great part in the success of this day.

See you next year

Karen Gaffney
